MALAYSIAN COUPLE BEHIND THE YOUTUBE PHENOMENON 'SUGU PAVITHRA' SAYS THEY DON'T DESERVE THE TITLE OF 'PEACE AMBASSADOR' OR 'COOKING ICON' YET.

Plaudits came in for the Malaysian YouTuber duo, Sugu Pavithra after they became an online sensation, and their cooking videos received widespread attention, including that of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

In fact, many netizens have even begun to call them ambassadors of unity or icons of cooking.

But as much as they were appreciative of the attention and acclaim, the couple felt they had not deserved it yet.
S.Pavithra, 28, and her friend, M.Sugu, 29, who entered the YouTube community in January of this year, though that there was still a lot more to learn from them before they could truly embrace such appreciation.

"We 're just ordinary people. It's a big deal to become an icon. Would we really deserve that? No, because in order to become an icon, one must be perfect. And with us, nothing is fine, "she said recently.

Many 'Sugu Pavithra' subscribers have made supportive comments on their YouTube channel, saying they deserved to be recognized as an ambassador of unity as they have successfully attracted a multi-ethnic audience to their videos created in the Malay language.

A check found that there were also overseas followers who had subscribed to the duo's channel and shared the couple's cooking videos with their friends.

As she happily shared the good news that she had earned her third paycheck from YouTube, Pavithra said that her husband had resigned from his job at the Sungai Siput estate company last week and that both of them are now ready to commit to sharing more interesting recipes as well as searching for alternative content for their subscribers.

"The income (from being a YouTuber) isn't bad, so we decided to focus on it," she said.

Meanwhile, Sugu said that he had made a decision to quit as he did not want his work to be threatened by their YouTube activities.

"So now, we hope to focus on producing more fascinating videos to increase our subscribers' incomes," he said.
