GUNUNG LEDANG, JOHOR NATIONAL PARK


Gunung Ledang was established in order to protect this specific mountain together with whole of the unique flora and fauna that make it home during 2005. The 8,611.9-ha is the protected area that cover the entire Ledang landscape. It holds the pristine tropical rainforest and it serves as a critical water catchment area for both Johor and Melaka.

Gunung Ledang is also shroud with many legends. These legends are centered on the mythical princess known as Puteri Gunung Ledang. The princess used the advances of the Sultan of Melaka by setting seven impossible tasks for exchange her hand in marriage in the most famous version chronicled in Sejarah Melayu (Sulalatus Salatin).

The mountain also goes by several names. In the 14th century, the Chinese sailors called it by Kim Sua, which means “Gold Mountain” in Hokkien. British cartographers named it Mount Ophir after the legend of the Ophir lost mines that supplied King Solomon‘s treasure. “Ledang” may be meant as “high”, “faraway”, or “showy” in Old Javanese,


Nowadays, Gunung Ledang had become one of the most popular mountain climbing destinations in Malaysia. It is estimated between 15,000 and 20,000 visitors will attempt the 1,276 meter-High Mountain every year.

 While the peak can be reached within the half a day, but it is not an easy task to climb by any means. Even so, those who manage to reach the top are heavily rewarded. It is a spectacular 360-degree view of the surrounding plains, weather permitting which conclude all about this mountain and what defines its beauty in the first place.

Conclusion, Gunung Ledang is a marvelous place to visit and not to mention it hold many magnificent in history that define this state and country, Nevertheless, this is the place you going to visit if you seek a beautiful flora and fauna life.
