THE MYSTERY OF A MAJESTIC GHOSTLY CASTLE

On the top of the hill at Batu Gajah, a castle that was built back in 1915 and belonged to the Scottish rubber plantation owner, William Kellie Smith.

Initially, the castle was to consist of a 6-story tower, a tennis court, a rooftop entertainment area, a wine cellar, and secret tunnels. It was also intended to show what the first elevator in Malaya (now; Malaysia) should have been. Unfortunately, Smith's visions have not come true.

THE CASTLE’S HISTORY
The tale started when Smith moved to Malaya, venturing into a rubber plantation company that spiked him to the height of his fortune. However, in 1926, when Smith died in Lisbon, events started to take a tragic turn. After his sudden death, the building of the castle was halted. Smith's wife, Agnes eventually sold the castle to Harrisons and Crosfield. It was then abandoned, and years later it became a historic site.

What makes this castle famous today?

Kellie's Castle provides a great experience of wandering in architectural elegance, as well as being considered a place of supernatural idioms. Given persistent reports of ghost sightings around the castle, one cannot ignore the impressive structural wonders adorned in every corner of the castle.

"The rooftop is also available to tourists, where they can enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding city."

The castle boasts spectacular horseshoe-shaped arches, elegant imported tiles, bricks, as well as attractive ceilings decorated with intricate plaster cornice designs.

"One of the places in the building was named 'Ghostly Cloister Balcony,' described as the corridor in which Smith's spirit roams at night. "

THE CASTLE’S ATMOSPHERE
Perched on the grounds of the castle are the sculptures of Smith and his two sons, which welcome all visitors upon arrival. Even now, locals claim that the place is haunted by the ghosts of the Smith family and the building staff of the castle.
