MALAYSIAN STYLE SALAD AND DESSERT

What goes wrong when cendol is partnered with rojak? Exactly, it is heaven. Cendol is an iced sweet dessert that contains droplets of green rice flour jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar syrup. It is commonly found across Southeast Asia and very much popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar. Apart from those mentioned toppings, one can even enjoy it with durian flesh which roughly cost RM 35. Yes, it is the price for a single bowl.

The dessert even can be considered as a drink when served in a mug but normally on a bowl. Usually, in Malaysia cendol will be sold at a roadside stall, hawker shops and few cozy cafes. The price range will be RM 2.00 to RM 5.00. Although the origin goes back to Indonesia nobody has claimed theirs till now and Malaysia has successfully added to their heritage list.

Next, rojak is an Indonesian vegetable salad dish commonly the term “rojak” means mixture in Malay. However, since rojak in Malaysia and Singapore have been heavily influenced with Indian touch therefore making it a non-vegetarian dish and known as “Rojak Mamak” or “Indian Rojak”. Where else in northern Malaysia it is known as “Pasembur”. Subsequently, when the “Tamil Mamaks” learnt the recipe, they used modified sidecar motorcycles as preparation counters to sell. Furthermore, few mobile vendors Mamaks has took it to another level by using modified mini trucks.

In roadside stalls the rojak served on a plate layered with plastic to avoid being oily.

On a different note, the newly opened establishment in PJ named “Aricendol” selling both cendol and rojak at a reasonable price in a café ambiance. It is a must try stop for every local cuisine lover. Quality wise their taste is the best because they use original peanut sauce recipe which functions as a kingmaker. It has the tangy sweet with spicy touch which makes it more appealing and delicious.
