7 UPCOMING FILMS THAT HAVE BEEN DELAYED IN MALAYSIA BECAUSE OF COVID-19

Many of the releases of the spring movie were pushed back due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The outbreak of COVID-19 caused several major film distributors to postpone or cancel upcoming releases at the theaters.

And this is not the issue of Malaysia alone. Several studios have declared a full postponement or cancelation of their film premieres all over the world in the fear that the releases will have weak box office returns and become a factor leading to the spread of the virus.

Here are seven confirmed films that have been canceled from theatrical release in the coming months:

1. A Quiet Place Part II
Initial release date: 19 March 2020

United International Pictures Malaysia confirmed that their thriller blockbuster starring Emily Blunt will be delayed until an unspecified date, blaming the pandemic and its effect on the theatrical market for its delay.

2. Mulan
Initial release date: 26 March 2020

The Malaysian Walt Disney Corporation has announced that the film will not be released later this month.

The company has also halted all promotions related to the film, adding that a potential release date for 2020 will be announced in the future.



3.No Time To Die
Initial release date: 9 April 2020

The latest installment of the James Bond franchise is among the first movies to announce the postponement of the film.

The fourth Bond movie starring Daniel Craig was originally scheduled for release in April but has now been moved back to the UK premiere on 12 November 2020.

United International Pictures Malaysia has confirmed that the local release date will soon be revealed.


4. The New Mutants
Initial release date: 2 April 2020

Similar to Mulan, The Walt Disney Company Malaysia told SAYS that the latest spin-off of the X-Men franchise would be delayed and a new premiere date would be announced in the future.

According to Screenrant, this is the fourth time that the new mutants have been delayed. The movie is said to be a standalone film not related to any of the previous X-Men movies.


5.Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway
Initial release date: 2 April 2020

Sony Pictures Entertainment Malaysia said the studio's new animated comedy, starring James Corden, will be pushed back by five months.

The latest release date will be 20 August 2020

6.Antlers
Initial release date: 16 April 2020

The third Disney movie that has been canceled out of its theater release is Antlers, a horror movie starring Keri Russell. The Malaysian Walt Disney Company did not mention when the film was released.

7.Fast & Furious 9
Initial release date: 21 May 2020

It looks like fans will wait for it nearly another year after three years from the last Quick movie. According to Variety, Fast & Furious 9 will be pushed back 11 months, only hitting the big screen in April 2021.
