If anyone has ever come across the Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) and Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) then this small temple just located by roadside would be familiar. This temple mainly dedicated to Tamil guardian deity Muniswarar. Whenever you pass by you can smell the scent of sandalwood sambrani and loud music from the temple during every Friday evening. There is a new temple being built just beside the existing temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is said Sri Maha Siva Muniswarar Alayam HKL was built some 30 years ago and used to be busy in the morning with Indian HKL staffs. Now, we only can witness mainly patients who present before going to the hospital to seek treatment or operation.
According to the caretaker Mr Balasubramaniam, the temple received a lot of financial help and support from the hospital staffs and doctors. However, now times are being difficult especially as a new MRT Station is being built just beside the temple.
The annual prayer for this temple falls in December. The temple committee normally would invite all devotees and former HKL staffs to attend. There will be pal koodam (milk pot) procession in the morning and chariot in the evening. Although the temple is not really spacious and lack of basic facilities such as parking and proper traffic arrangement, I am sure HKL staffs and patients will have fond memories of this temple.
